On August 21, 2011, tens of members of Coalition for Citizens Rights protested outside the Chinese Consulate General New York over forced eviction and land grabs in China.
In recent years, following the booming of the real estate market in China, local governments and real estate developers have been going hand in hand in evicting residents out of their houses, in many cases employing police force, mafia and gangs to tear down houses by force. Residents who resisted eviction are beaten, sent to labor camps, and sometimes imprisoned. Those who filed lawsuits with the court over forced eviction had their cases dismissed and those who petitioned to the higher government were detained, tortured and imprisoned.
Some members of Coalition for Citizens Rights had their houses in China forcibly evicted by the Chinese government.
Coalition for Citizens Rights calls on the Chinese government to immediately stop forced eviction and land grabs and return robbed private property to their owners.
Members of Coalition for Citizens Rights attending today's protest include: Lin Zhifeng, Jin Changxie, Zhu Fashun, Zhu Rongsheng, Weng Shenglu, Jin Fengnu, Cui Ying, Dong Chunxiao, Hua Nan, Ge Yaowei, Zhu Yongming, Liu Xijun, Cao Jintao.
