Freedom for Liu Xiaobo and Chen Guangcheng

We call on the Chinese government to release Liu Xiaobo, the 2010 Nobel Laureate for peace prize who was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2009 for writing "Charter 08", an article calling for rule of law, freedom of speech and constitutional reform; and freedom for Chen Guangcheng, a blind human rights lawyer who served 4 years and 3 months in prison for providing legal assistance to victims of forced abortion and sterilization and has been placed under house arrest since his release from prison in 2011.

"Free Nobel Laureate Liu Xiaobo" Rally (释放刘晓波)

On Nov 4, 2014, "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights", a human rights organization based in America, held a rally across from the Chinese Consulate in New York demanding the release of Liu Xiaobo, the 2010 Nobel Prize winner who was sentenced to 11 years in prison for writing an article calling for democracy and freedom in China.

It is the 6th year since the organization held protests in front of the Chinese Consulate in New York demanding the release of Dr. Liu Xiaobo.

Back in 2008, right after the Chinese government detained Dr. Liu Xiaobo, "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" held its first protest at the Chinese Consulate in New York demanding for his release.

However, despite repeated calls for his release from the organization, as well as from people, government, and organizations all over the world, the Chinese government has refused to release Liu Xiaobo. As of today, Dr. Liu Xiaobo is still serving his prison terms in China.

"Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" insists that Dr. Liu Xiaobo's imprisonment is a serious violation of his rights to freedom of speech, and he should be released immediately and unconditionally.

At the protest, a number of people gave speeches in support of Liu Xiaobo, and asked the Chinese government to have him released immediately.

This protest was organized by Xu Zhejun, the acting chairman of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights".

Members of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" attending today's protest include: Wan Wenguo, Wu Meisong, Huang Yingyu, Jin Lianhua, Han Longzhe, Piao Ri, Wei Haoxing, Xiong Liangfeng, Xu Yingyu, Yang Huisheng, Ren Hongliu, Jin Lianshun, Chen Jinfeng, Yu Jie, Jin Shanyu, Xu Zhejun.
