Freedom for Liu Xiaobo and Chen Guangcheng

We call on the Chinese government to release Liu Xiaobo, the 2010 Nobel Laureate for peace prize who was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2009 for writing "Charter 08", an article calling for rule of law, freedom of speech and constitutional reform; and freedom for Chen Guangcheng, a blind human rights lawyer who served 4 years and 3 months in prison for providing legal assistance to victims of forced abortion and sterilization and has been placed under house arrest since his release from prison in 2011.

New York Forum on 65 Years of Communist Rule in China

On September 30, 2014, at the invitation of Mr. Xue Wei, chairman of the "Chinese Alliance for Democracy", members of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" attended a forum in Flushing, New York on "65 years of Communist rule in China".

Hu Ping, chief editor of "Beijing Spring", a pro-democracy journal, gave a lengthy speech on the nature of the Communist dictatorship in China for the past 65 years. He said that the Chinese Communists did two most evil things in China in the past 65 years: in the first 30 years, the Communists robbed all of private properties of the Chinese people; in the second 30 years, the Communists put the looted properties into the private pockets of the high government officials and Communist chiefs. The Chinese government also blocked the internet, controlled the media, and stripped citizens of their rights to freedom of speech and religious belief.

Also speaking at the Forum is Professor Xia Yeliang, a former professor with the Beijing University who was fired from the school because of his pro-democracy expressions. Xia Ming, a professor with the City University of New York, gave a speech on the development of dictatorship of the Communists since it came to power in 1949.

At the Forum, members of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" call on the Chinese government to return freedom of speech to all the Chinese citizens and release 2010 Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2009 for an article he wrote, "Charter 08".
