"Release Chen Xi" Rally (抗议判处人权人士陈西十年徒刑）

On January 3, 2012, "Coalition for Citizens Rights" held a rally across from the Chinese Consulate in New York protesting over 10-year prison sentence for Chen Xi, a veteran human rights activist in Guizhou, China.

2012年1月3日，“公民自由联盟”在纽约中领馆集会，抗议中国政府判处贵州人权活动人士陈西十年徒刑。

Chen Xi was sentenced to 10 years in prison on December 26, 2011, one day after Christmas, by the government-controlled court in Guizhou Province, China. He was charged with "subversion of state power" because he founded "Guizhou Human Rights Forum" and had been active in pro-human rights activities. He is also one of the signatories to "Charter 08", a manifesto by Dr. Liu Xiaobo calling for rule of law, freedom of speech and press, and government be elected by the people. Dr. Liu Xiaobo was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Christmas 2009. In 2010, Dr. Liu Xiaobo won the Nobel Peace Prize of the year.

陈西是在2011年12月26日，圣诞节后一天被中国政府的法院判处10年徒刑的。他的罪名是“颠覆国家政权罪”，因为他组建了“贵州人权研讨会”，并一直从事人权活动。他也是“零八宪章”的签署人之一。“零八宪章”是刘晓波写的，号召在中国实现法制，言论自由和新闻自由，政府由人民选举。刘晓波博士因为写了这篇文章，被中国政府在2009年的圣诞节判处11年有期徒刑。2010年，刘晓波获得了当年的诺贝尔和平奖。

"Coalition for Citizens Rights" protests the unjustified lengthy prison sentence for human rights activists and calls on the Chinese government to respect freedom of speech and release Chen Xi and Dr. Liu Xiaobo immediately, because what they did was just exercising their rights to freedom of speech, which is afforded in the Chinese Constitution.

公民自由联盟抗议对人权活动人士判处重刑，要求中国政府尊重公民的言论自由，立即释放陈西和刘晓波，因为他们的作为只是在履行一个公民的言论自由的权利，而这种权利是中国宪法所明文规定每个公民都应当拥有的。
