Dr. Yang Jianli Meets with CCCR Members (杨建利博士会见公民自由联盟成员）

On May 14, 2013, Dr. Yang Jianli of Harvard University, founder and chairman of "Initiatives for China" (Citizen Power), met with members of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" at the "Beijing Spring" editorial office and gave a seminar on the ongoing citizen's movement in China.
2013年5月14日， 哈佛大学博士，“公民力量”创办人杨建利在“北京之春”办公室会见了“中国公民自由联盟”成员，并就当前的中国公民自由运动发表了演讲。

Dr. Yang Jianli has a doctorate in mathematics from UC Berkeley and another doctorate in Political Economics from Harvard University. He served a 5-year prison sentence in China from 2002 to 2007 after he returned to China in 2002 because he had been involved in overseas Chinese democracy movement.
杨建利博士从加州大学伯克莱分校取得数学博士学位，又从哈佛大学取得政治经济学博士学位。在2002年他回到中国后，被判处5年徒刑，因为他在海外从事中国民主运动。他在2007年被释放，回到美国。

Dr. Yang Jianli has been honorary chairman of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" since 2008. Since that time, "Initiatives for China" and "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" have been cooperating closely on a number of initiatives, including "Free Nobel Laureate Liu Xiaobo", "Rescue Dr. Wang Bingzhang (founder of Chinese Alliance for Democracy, who has been serving life sentence in a Chinese prison), "Sparrow Initiative", etc.
自2008年起，杨建利博士一直是“中国公民自由联盟”的名誉主席。在杨建利博士的领导下，“中国公民自由联盟”和“公民力量”合作开展了很多活动，包括“释放诺贝尔和平奖获得者刘晓波博士”， “营救王炳章（中国民联发起人，被判处无期徒刑）”，“麻雀行动（帮助暴力拆迁受害者的联合国上访）”，等等。

Dr. Yang Jianli talked about his past experience as an democracy leader and his recent award by Harvard University for his outstanding contribution to China's democracy movement. He talked about the recent arrests of 10 people in Beijing who demanded government officials to report their assets. He also talked about the self-immolation of Tibetans and he said that it is extraordinary that there have been so many Tibetans burned themselves to death in protest of suppression. He also said that we should have a good understanding of what Chinese people's dreams really are.
杨建利博士谈到了他从事民主运动的经历，以及他这次被哈佛大学授予杰出校友奖的情况。他谈到了最近北京的10个要求政府官员公布财产的公民被逮捕的情况，还谈到了西藏人的自焚，他说在世界上，在历史长河中，从来没有发生过如此大规模的用自焚这种极端的方式争取自由的情况。他还说，我们中国人的梦到底是什么，我们需要认真地去思考。

At the latter part of Dr. Yang's seminar, he talked about his newly published book, "Saffron Flames: The Voice of the Tibetans". He encouraged members of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" to spend some time reading this book, because it is a record of how the Tibetans fight for their freedom. He said that by the time he wrote this book, there had only been about 30 Tibetans that committed self-immolation; as of today, the total number is 113. He said that we have to think about why there have been an increasing number of Tibetans burning themselves to death.
在杨建利博士演讲的下半部分，他向成员们介绍了他新出版的书，“欲火袈裟”。他鼓励成员们花点时间看这本书，因为这本书是西藏人用自己的生命争取自由的一个记录。他说，在他写这本书的时候，只有30多个西藏人自焚，现在，已经有113个藏人自焚。他说，我们要认真想一想，为什么有越来越多的藏人要用这种极端的手段结束自己的生命。

At the end of the meeting, all members of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights" bought this book signed by Dr. Yang Jianli.
在会议结束前， 中国公民自由联盟的成员们都购买了由杨建利博士亲笔签名的“欲火袈裟”这本书。

Also present at the meeting are Xue Wei, chairman of "Chinese Alliance for Democracy"; and Cao Jintao, chairman of "Chinese Coalition for Citizens Rights".
