Dr. Liu Xiaobo was sentenced to prison for 11 years in the charge of “inciting to subvert state power” by the Chinese government on Dec 25, 2009 for writing an article named "Charter 08", calling for rule of law, constitutional reform, freedom of speech and government be elected by the people.

On October 8, 2010, the
Nobel Committee in Norway announced that it awarded Dr. Liu Xiaobo, the Nobel
Peace Prize of the year for his outstanding contribution over the past 20 years
to China's peaceful transition to a democracy. However, an
empty chair of the ceremony unveiled the absence of Dr. Liu who was serving his
prison terms in Jinzhou instead of attending the ceremony himself.

the year 2012, Moyan, said in his press conference that he hoped Liu Xiaobo, the
2010 Nobel laureate for peace prize and also a dissident writer who detained by
Beijing authorities, could be released for free.

Xu Zhejun, a member of "Coalition for Citizens Rights", also spoke highly about Dr. Liu Xiaobo's contribution to China's democracy, and his role in the "Charter 08" movement. All the members "Coalition for Citizens Rights" urge Chinese government to free Dr. Liu Xiaobo and other dissident political prisoners immediately and give Chinese people freedom of speech.
